Inkling Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 August 2026 · Applies to Inkling for iOS, version 1.1.0

Inkling is a flashcard app published by Agile Lifestyles. This policy describes what the app does with data. It was written by reading the app’s source code, not by describing our intentions.

The short version

Inkling has no accounts and no sign-up. It contains no analytics, no advertising SDK and no crash reporter. It never asks for the advertising identifier, and it never creates a push token. Everything you do in the app — the topic you chose, the words on your shelf, your daily pace, your streak of days — is written to your device and stays there.

Two things do leave your device, and we would rather name them than claim to be “fully offline”:

1. What we collect

No personal data is collected by the app. There is no account, no profile, no form, no identifier generated for you, and nothing about your learning is uploaded anywhere.

We do receive personal data in one situation: when you choose to email us. The email carries whatever your mail app puts on it — normally your email address and your name — plus whatever you write.

2. What stays on your device

The app stores the following in its own sandbox on your iPhone:

The home-screen widget reads a small snapshot from a shared container on your device: the date, your interface language, your language pair, the labels on the widget, and the current and next card. The snapshot is capped at 4 KB and contains no identifier of any kind. It is written by the app and read by the widget — it never goes anywhere else.

None of this is sent to us. None of it is backed up to a server of ours, because we run none.

Retention: this data lives on your device until you delete the app. Deleting Inkling removes the sandbox and the shared container, and with them everything listed above.

3. What leaves your device

3.1 Downloading the flashcards

On launch the app requests the current flashcard set from static file hosting. The request carries no body, no query parameters, no cookies and no identifier — the app adds nothing to it. The app downloads every deck in the set, not the one you picked, so the requests do not reveal your topic.

GitHub, as the host, sees what any web server sees: an IP address, a timestamp, the requested file and a user-agent string. We do not operate that server and GitHub does not give site owners access to its request logs. Retention of those logs is GitHub’s, governed by GitHub’s own privacy statement.

If the request fails, the app falls back to its cache and then to the flashcards built into the download. The app is fully usable with no network — but it does try the network, and we will not call that “offline”.

3.2 Email you send us

Two buttons open a pre-filled draft in your mail app, addressed to kk@agilelifestyles.com:

You see the whole draft before sending and can edit or delete any of it. Nothing is transmitted until you send it. We use the message to answer you and, for the waitlist, to tell you when the paid features exist. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not pass your address to anyone.

Retention: the correspondence stays in our mailbox for as long as it is useful to answer you. Ask us to delete it and we will.

3.3 Things iOS does on your behalf

4. Notifications

Reminders are local notifications only. The app asks iOS to show a banner at a time of day you chose; the text is built on your device from a card you already have. No push token is created, no notification server is involved, and nothing about your reminders leaves the phone.

You can turn reminders off inside Inkling, or revoke the permission in iOS Settings. Either one stops them.

5. Third parties

There is no one else. We use no analytics provider, no ad network, no crash reporting service, no attribution SDK and no third-party cloud storage. Inkling has no ads.

6. Children

Inkling is not directed at children and does not ask for anyone’s age, name or any other personal detail. Because it collects nothing, it collects nothing from children either.

7. How to remove your data and withdraw consent

You do not need an account to do any of this, because there is no account to close.

8. Changes to this policy

If the app’s behaviour changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. We do not back-date. Material changes will be reflected in the app’s App Store release notes.
